2007 was the start of the 717 Entertainment Machine. Then called “The Doctors Office”named after the column name I had written for HGBonline. The start came from an idea on the HBGonline message boards as an awards show from local muscians. This was in 2006 probably september or so. I went to a local venue in Harrisburg called the Hardware bar where BigJim of HBGonline hosted a weekly event called “Twisted Tuesday” and I spoke w/ Kyle Taylor of Julian Fist that evening about doing a local awards show although I was very green and didn’t have any capital saved up to do such a thing. We spoke at length about it and he assured me of ways I could do it w/out spending much money and in the end likely making money. Originally I thought of having local area musicians and celebrities posting winners on thier myspace pages at certain intervals of time. Such as we’d have vocalist of band whoever post the winner of the Best New Artist award at 9:00 on thier page followed by someone else posting Best Regional artist at maybe 9:10 on thier page so you could follow along on Myspace and see the winners throughout the hour or so. Upon meeting Matt Eisenhower, the Man over at Gulliftys through a mutual friend (Leo Nessinger) the “The Doctors Office Awards Show” were born. From there I began making friends and such w/ local and regional area musicians and began a small reputation for booking and ended the year w/ 4 shows under my belt.
