R.I.P. Seth Brooks Binzer
(Shifty Shellshock)

I first met Seth at HMAC in harrisburg when I booked them back in february of 2019. Before that I only knew him as the Shifty Shellshock, Singer of Crazy Town and VH1 reality TV star. I was aware (and told) about his battle w/ drugs, alchohol and personal demons. I saw none of that the night I met him. I didn’t chat w/ him to much that evening but noticed him gliding in and out of the crowd and venue all night long, talking to people, taking pictures and watching the opening acts. No rockstar attitude at all from what I gathered. He seemed happy, together and genuinely excited to be there. The band put on a Stellar performance and Shifty absolutely commanded the stage and audience.
Fast forward to Summer of 2022. Once again I was having Crazy Town only this time it was at Lovedrafts along w/ Hedpe and Adema. Many times these “rockstars” dont remember the little promoter guy especially after 3 years and what little interaction we had. I was there early and he came around the corner w/ a Big smile “Nick, buddy” he came up and gave me a big hug. We talked alot that day and even shared tater tots. I learned alot about Seth Binzer that day, not from him opening up and telling me his life story but just his vibe. The guy was so down to earth and geniune. Once again he walked the crowd and talked to people all night, taking pictures and socializing. I kept hearing about this arrogant asshole and I never saw it. Over the next few months we’d keep in touch a bit. I won’t beat a dead horse so i’ll skip too….

Crazy Town came to Lovedrafts for what is now the final time. I was told Seth was on drugs again pretty badly as he was no showing concerts, or being extremely late. As I arrived at the venue I was told that Hugo (of Tantric) was in charge of getting Seth to the venue. The entire day was this big question mark as two of the 4 bands leaders were 3-4 hours away only an hour or so before doors. I wasn’t worried about it at all, I knew I couldn’t do anything about it and I just had this overwhelming feeling that he’d be there. We switched Adema and Tantric’s set and it came time for Tantric’s set and still no Hugo or Seth. less than 5 minutes later up rolls a black SUV that looked like secret service and out pops hugo who heads directly to stage and from the passenger side Seth stumbled out. He was not himself in any sense of the word. Right way asking for liquor and prescription drugs. I didn’t oblige but remember being so dissappointed that it wasn’t the Seth I knew. The band was amazing as usual but sadly I didn’t get to chat w/ him much at all that night. Honestly I didn’t want to, it was the guy I knew. I’m not claiming I was some great friend but we were acquintances and he’s one of the few guys on a national level that I could text. I don’t have some great list of rockstars in my phone, ha. You all know what happened a few days later w/ the performance in North Carolina and then the backstage fight.
Today we lost him. Last I had heard he had completed rehab and was doing very well so its extra sad to hear. Was it the drugs, demons? Nobody has said yet and honestly its a mute point, he’s gone. I was in talks to bring them back in the fall as recently as a few days ago. Anyway I wanted to write a little thing to show a different side of the guy as I’ve already seen so many pricks say things like “once a junkie always a junkie” and stupid shit like that. Hopefully most remember him how I do.

RIP Seth…
